Chemnitz - The German Train Drivers' Union (GDL) is planning to paralyse the Chemnitz City Railway in one fell swoop after another. Following the end of the 16th strike today, GDL national chairman Claus Weselsky called a 17th strike at 2.59 pm today. Start: Friday, 19 July 2024 at 3 a.m., end open!
There is an emergency bus service for City-Bahn passengers. This will be maintained permanently for the foreseeable future. Timetables can be found on the company's website.
Claus Weselsky has announced "further waves of strikes" for the coming days in a press release.
As soon as it is foreseeable that train services on the City-Bahn will be able to run stably again in the long term, the company will inform you here by press release.
Until then, media representatives and passengers will find all relevant information on transport exclusively on our website. So: please inform yourself here when you start your journey:
Note on the background to the wage dispute: The GDL's main demand in this round of collective bargaining had always been the introduction of the 35-hour week. The GDL rejected other collective bargaining offers from City-Bahn. The management therefore decided to enter into negotiations on the 35-hour week, primarily in the interests of passengers. At the same time, City-Bahn was prepared to increase train drivers' wages in line with the inflation rate over the coming years. However, Weselsky also rejected this offer and now wants to overwhelm City-Bahn and its passengers with an almost unprecedented wave of strikes. The federal chairman of the GDL shows no interest in using a mediator.
