Press Release

More city trains on the move during Advent

  • C11 and C13/14 run every half hour at weekends
  • City-Bahn boss: "Visit the region's Christmas markets with us"
  • But watch out! Rail disruptions due to mining parade on 30 November

Chemnitz - The City-Bahn is increasing train services during the Advent season. But before that, the popular mountain parade in Chemnitz city centre causes diversions.

The traditional mining parade makes its way through the city centre on 30 November. Hundreds of miners are flanked by thousands of onlookers. As a result, buses and trains have to run differently, including the city railway:

  • The C11 line only runs to the central stop between 12 noon and 4.15 pm,
  • During this time, the C13 line will run directly between Chemnitz main station and Chemnitz Reichenhain, bypassing the city centre,
  • The same applies to the C14 line from 12 noon to 4 pm,
  • The C15 line ends at Chemnitz main station between 13:00 and 16:30.

Apart from this Saturday, additional city trains will be running on all Advent weekends as "Glühweinexpress trains", connecting Christmas markets and shopping centres in the region:

C11 railway line (Chemnitz Stollberg): extension of the half-hourly service on Saturdays until around 6.30pm, half-hourly service on Sundays between 1pm and 6.30pm.

C14 railway line (Mittweida Chemnitz Thalheim): three additional pairs of journeys to Thalheim on Saturdays, thus extending the half-hourly frequency (together with C13) between Chemnitz and Thalheim to around 6 pm. On Sundays, additional journeys to Thalheim between 10.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m., thus also every half hour on Sundays on this section of the route.

City-Bahn Managing Director Friedbert Straube: "Forget the stress of looking for a parking space and traffic jams. Hop on board with us and visit the region's Christmas markets. Travelling couldn't be more convenient."

All information on the topic can be found at www.city-bahn.de under "Latest news".

Current information: The City trains between Aue and Chemnitz are currently running at reduced speed. The reason is strong winds. This is causing disruptions to the timetable. The City-Bahn informs about the cancellation of the restrictions on www.city-bahn.de.
