- Chemnitz Labour Court rules in favour of pupils and parents in interim injunction proceedings
- School transport can start running tomorrow
- City-Bahn Managing Director: "Right to education and safe journey to school guaranteed"
Chemnitz - The Chemnitz Labour Court has cleared the way for safe school transport on the City-Bahn - despite ongoing strikes by the German Train Drivers' Union (GDL).
The GDL is therefore prohibited from obstructing school transport. This means that school transport must be guaranteed in the mornings and afternoons on school days. The list of trains is published on www.city-bahn.de to be found.
City-Bahn Managing Director: "I am extremely pleased for our young passengers and their parents that we have achieved this legal success against the GDL and its national chairman Claus Weselsky. It is sad that we first had to go to court to ensure safe journeys to school and the right to education. Ultimately, however, the Chemnitz Labour Court confirmed our view. The conflict itself can only be resolved through negotiations. I call on the GDL to do so. A reasonable compromise is immediately negotiable with me without any further strike action!"
Background: Around 1,800 children and young people use the City-Bahn lines every day (Monday to Friday) to get to and from school. In Saxony, school transport is a sovereign task that is carried out by districts and independent cities (Section 23, 3 of the Saxon School Act). The City-Bahn is part of this system, which was confirmed by the Labour Court today.
Due to the strike, school transport had come to a standstill several times in recent weeks. City-Bahn therefore applied to the labour court for a temporary injunction.
