Chemnitz - From Wednesday (24 January 2024, 2 a.m.), the City-Bahn Chemnitz will once again be on strike by the German Train Drivers' Union (GDL). The union wants no trains to run until Monday evening (29 January) at 6 pm. Deutsche Bahn is also affected.

The core issue is still the trade union's attempt to enforce the 35-hour week, which is not possible due to the current staffing situation. City-Bahn Managing Director Friedbert Straube: "Striking the city railway for six days is excessive." The GDL was not prepared to negotiate with City-Bahn at all - apart from a single, but very brief, round. Friedbert Straube: "The union only wants to negotiate if I agree to the 35-hour working week beforehand. That's the only way to prevent strikes. These are not negotiations at eye level. It's blackmail." However, the 35-hour week leads to poorer rather than better working conditions and fewer trains on the City-Bahn.

Despite the call to strike, the City-Bahn will run the morning "school trains" on C11 (Chemnitz Stollberg), C13 (Burgstädt Chemnitz Aue) and RB92 (Stollberg Glauchau). Straube: "Over the course of Wednesday and Thursday, we will find out whether we can offer further connections with trains or replacement buses. Up-to-date information is available at city-bahn.de or by calling our hotline on (0371) 495 795 222."

All the latest news and alternative bus and tram connections will be available from Tuesday on www.city-bahn.de or by telephone on (0371) 495 795 222. If you want to know whether a bus line or tram is an alternative to the train: www.city-bahn.de/ Deselect the following options in the journey planner under search options: Train, Light rail, S-Bahn. Then enter start and destination. These results are limited to bus and tram connections.
