- Despite a notice from City-Bahn, the current strike ended too late today
- Lines C11 and C14 did not run reliably due to the strike
- City-Bahn managing director: "Parents and pupils were deceived."
Chemnitz - Today (Monday morning) at 6 a.m., the German Train Drivers' Union (GDL) ended its 13th strike against the City-Bahn Chemnitz. Contrary to a GDL announcement to the contrary, school transport was disrupted.
School trains on lines C11 and C14 were cancelled this morning!
This was foreseeable, as the GDL had announced the end of the strike yesterday for 6 a.m. today. The GDL had not responded to a written intervention by City-Bahn that school transport could only run properly if the strike ended at 5.10 am.
Yesterday, however, the union issued a press release with the title "GDL shows consideration for school transport"which states, among other things: "Education is a valuable asset and will not be affected by GDL strikes."
City-Bahn Managing Director Friedbert Straube: "The GDL is doing the opposite of what it says it will do. It has ignored our advice and is deceiving pupils and parents who were unable to use the City-Bahn to get to school on time."
Around 1,800 children and young people use the City-Bahn lines every day (Mondays to Fridays) to get to and from school. In Saxony, school transport is a compulsory public service provided by the administrative districts and independent cities (Section 23, 3 of the Saxon Education Act). The City-Bahn is part of this system. The Chemnitz Labour Court will hear the City-Bahn's application for a temporary injunction on Wednesday. With the application, the transport company wants to enforce safe school transport on its lines - despite possible GDL strikes.
