- Trade union takes school transport into consideration
- City-Bahn Managing Director: "Makes me optimistic about finding a solution to the wage dispute."
- City-Bahn examines the use of an arbitrator
Chemnitz - The German Train Drivers' Union (GDL) is sending out the first signals of concessions in the wage dispute with City-Bahn Chemnitz: GDL has heeded criticism in its twelfth strike against City-Bahn (22 May 2024, 5 p.m. to 23 May 2024, 6 a.m.) and is taking school transport into consideration.
A GDL press release on the end of the strike states: "The GDL has carefully planned the duration of the industrial action so as not to disrupt school transport services today and tomorrow."
Review: Previous strikes started at 12 noon, pupils using the City-Bahn had no chance of getting home safely. This led to fierce criticism of the union.
City-Bahn Managing Director Friedbert Straube: "This consideration makes me optimistic that we will find a solution to the labour dispute. Both passengers and many City-Bahn employees are suffering together from the strikes. I want to put an end to this as quickly as possible!"
At the same time and independently of the GDL's initial concession, City-Bahn Chemnitz is considering legal steps to secure the full school transport service.
Managing Director Friedbert Straube is also examining whether the appointment of a mediator could help to end the conflict more quickly.
