GDL strike: Court to hear on Wednesday whether city trains can transport schoolchildren

  • City-Bahn application for interim injunction received by labour court
  • Judge schedules hearing for Wednesday, 29 May 2024
  • Until then, no more GDL strikes during school transport times?

Chemnitz - The Chemnitz Labour Court will hear the City-Bahn's application for a temporary injunction on Wednesday. With the application, the transport company wants to enforce safe school transport on its lines - despite possible GDL strikes.

City-Bahn Managing Director Friedbert Straube: "I assume that the GDL will no longer strike on the important school trains in the mornings and afternoons until the hearing on Wednesday. As a result of our application for a temporary injunction, the GDL is apparently refraining from continuing to block school transport. It took this legal pressure to get the GDL to realise this."

Around 1,800 children and young people use the City-Bahn lines every day (Mondays to Fridays) to get to and from school. In Saxony, school transport is a compulsory public service provided by the administrative districts and independent cities (Section 23, 3 of the Saxon Education Act). The City-Bahn is part of this system.
