Press Release

GDL strike: Commuters and schoolchildren won't get home today!

  • Strike begins today (Tuesday) at 12 noon and ends tomorrow (Wednesday) at 6 a.m.
  • Sticking point still 35-hour week with full wage equalisation
  • City-Bahn Managing Director: "I hope the GDL finds its way back to proportionality."

Chemnitz - The City-Bahn Chemnitz will be on strike from 12 noon today (Tuesday) until 6 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday) by the German Train Drivers' Union (GDL). The reason is the union's adherence to the 35-hour week with full pay compensation.

At short notice, the GDL announced this morning that the City-Bahn lines will go on strike at 12 noon. The immediate consequence of this is that commuters and schoolchildren who travelled to work and school on the City-Bahn this morning will not be able to get home.
The City-Bahn is trying to set up an emergency bus service.

The wage dispute centres on the 35-hour week with full pay compensation.
City-Bahn Managing Director Friedbert Straube: "I made proposals to the GDL for a reduction in working hours and a pay rise. The GDL rejected everything. I hope the GDL will return to proportionality."
